How to Join Movie Files
kensai — Fri, 09/19/2008 - 13:02
Do you have two or more movie files, and you want to join them? Well, if you are using Linux, then this is an easy task, after knowing the right command to use that is. For example, if you are using Arch Linux, you will only need to: "pacman -S mplayer". In the case you are using another Linux distribution, just make sure to install mplayer, but you should know that some Linux distributions does not bundle mencoder with mplayer, and mencoder is the tool we need to get the job done. For example, for Ubuntu you should issue the following command: "sudo apg-get install mencoder mplayer".

New Microsoft ads, Funny?
kensai — Sat, 09/06/2008 - 11:51
Microsoft is paying Jerry Seinfeld some millions to do their commercials, in the hope to a better Windows Vista promotion. The problem is Jerry Seinfeld was good in his days, but now, he is hardly as good as he was (for the record I still like and watch his show). This kind of strategies show us how desperate is the situation at Microsoft, I mean, Linux amounts to more than 13% of the servers market.

Google's Chrome, Interesting Features
kensai — Tue, 09/02/2008 - 09:47
Google announced yesterday that they will enter the Internet browsers market, and typical of Google, in the pursue of building hype the announcement was made into a comic book which is available here.
Is there something special in this browser? Well, some of the things that make it special at least in my case, are:
- Built from scratch, thinking of the latest trends and user navigation habits on the net.

Enjoy Tremulous
kensai — Wed, 08/13/2008 - 13:43
Note: This article was featured in the June, 2008 edition of the Arch Linux Newsletter.
Cited from the Tremulous website, “Tremulous is a free, open source game that blends a team based FPS with elements of an RTS.” Sounds good? Yeah, and in my opinion, it is good. I have been addicted to this game since I started using Arch Linux full time, the fact that I have no other Operating System installed on my system makes me rely on Linux for everyday tasks and even for gaming. Tremulous is the game I have enjoyed the most so far in my Linux gaming experience, so I took on the challenge of trying to enjoy it to the maximum. Here is what I came of with:

Recording your 3D Games Made Easy
kensai — Thu, 08/07/2008 - 09:55
Note: This article was featured in the July, 2008 edition of the Arch Linux Newsletter.
From the glc website: “glc is an ALSA & OpenGL capture tool for Linux. It consists of a generic video capture, playback and processing library and a set of tools built around that library. glc should be able to capture any application that uses ALSA for sound and OpenGL for drawing. It is still a relatively new project but already has a long list of features.”

How to Merge Subtitles to a Movie File
kensai — Wed, 06/25/2008 - 09:25
My refusal to use Windows is what makes me learn to do everything using only Linux, even though it usually requires long times in front of the computer researching and tweaking the hints google.com/linux gives me. But, at least I can say that at the end the results are satisfying, I end up learning more about Linux and how powerful a command line application can be compared to a most GUI application. I must admit that I do prefer GUI in the majority of the cases, is just that from time to time I am amazed by the power of the CLI.

A Call for Contributions...
kensai — Sun, 06/08/2008 - 14:05
Hi, as you probably know by now the Arch Linux Newsletter is featuring a new section, it goes by the name of Gaming Arena. Gaming Arena is written with the Linux community in mind, so they know how to get started on open source or Linux available games, that way they don't have to rely on other Operating Systems to satisfy their gaming needs. I do have some other articles that I will contribute to it, and will do in due time, but I want you contributions. Why?

My Apologies, Arch Linux Community
kensai — Fri, 05/23/2008 - 11:08
Well, I'm going to talk about the locked thread in the Arch Linux forums, which got locked because of me. I have to say, one needs to live by his own rules and never break them, that's what happened to me, I went on talking about immaturity and all of a sudden in my latest post on that forum thread I just showed nothing more but immaturity. Well, maybe I was blinded by the personal attacks I received by the poster of the article referenced on that thread.

My First Video Upload to YouTube
kensai — Thu, 05/15/2008 - 18:37
I have just uploaded a video to YouTube, today. It really isn't that great, is just me playing neverball on Arch Linux, and I just even am not that good at it, you will notice, believe me. But what makes me feel proud is that all is done with Linux tools and on Arch Linux. I will keep playing and learning more of the tools that I used to make this video and then encode it on a size and format that would be easier to upload to YouTube.
